The Waverley Council area is located in the inner eastern suburbs of Sydney. Waverley Council covers nine square kilometers along Sydney's eastern suburbs of Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi, north to Dover Heights and Rose Bay, west to Queens Park, Bondi Junction and Charing Cross, and south to Bronte. Waverley has a population in excess of 75,000 people with a very high population density including many high profile tourist locations including Bondi beach which is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Australia. In the past two years Waverley was part of the eastern suburbs council amalgamations plan of the NSW state government however in late 2017 this plan was abandoned by the Liberal government and Waverley will remain a stand-a-lone council for the foreseeable future.
